I began my career in loan origination in 2002 at a small loan brokerage firm following my honorable discharge from the USAF as an aircraft loadmaster on a c-141 starlifter. In 2003, I worked for a direct lender on the retail side of the business. I was promoted to sales manager in 2005, which lasted until the mortgage crisis of 2008. As a sales manager for a direct lender I shifted to an independent consultant helping the servicing department understand how to responsibly rewrite and modify loans and prevent default. This led to being an internal loan modification underwriter in 2010. I made borrower affordability decisions according to HAMP federal guidelines directly for AHMSI a large loan servicer. This helped thousands of homeowners stay in their homes, as well as saved investors from costly foreclosures. In 2012, I took on the title of operations manager leading ten teams with 100+ analysts. The objective of this large project was to review modification income calculation techniques of one of the largest banks in the nation. The results of my team's findings were reported back to the federal government (OCC) based on a consent order to make a determination of any damages to homeowners across the United States. In 2013, I re-entered retail lending as a sales manager for loanDepot.com until September 2019. During my time in retail lending, I was able to help many people across the country with financing the purchase of a home or a refinance of their current loan. However, something was missing.
After doing some market research, I realized that by being a broker, instead of working for a direct lender, I could actually help more people directly in my community and offer better rates/products.
So in 2019, I decided to make a change and become a broker. While I enjoyed my time as a sales manager for a direct lender, becoming a broker was the best thing I could have done. As a homeowner since 2006 and father of 2 daughters here in Mission Viejo my community has become much more important to me.
Instead of only being able to offer products that only fit in the box of my specific employer, I can now shop amongst hundreds of different wholesale lenders for the best terms and program for my clients. I chose to work with C2 Financial a broker who is one of the largest, and because of its size, is able to negotiate preferred pricing and service for its client.
